The Team
Meet David
Hi, I’m David Waker.
I’m an accredited personal trainer from the UK and the founder of Balanced Athletics here in Hongshan, Shenzhen.
My journey in movement started over 15 years ago, through martial arts and gymnastics, followed by an eight-year career as a professional dancer — including performing at the London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony.
These experiences shaped my coaching style: disciplined, creative, and focused on unlocking the body’s full potential.
Today, I coach individuals and small groups at my private studio, specialising in:

Calisthenics
Mobility training
Obstacle-style training

Why I Started Balanced Athletics
When I moved to Shenzhen, I saw a gap: many expats struggled to stay consistent with their fitness. Without access to familiar gyms, routines, or English-speaking trainers, motivation often faded.
Balanced Athletics was built to fill that gap. A space where you can feel comfortable, supported, and challenged in the right way.
